All my Brit friends on here will get a bang out of this I'm sure. Being the ardent lil Anglophile that I am, I settled down last night to watch a film called The Queen's Sister, the story of Princess Margaret from age 20 to about 50.

The actress who played the Princess was outstanding and the blurb says she was nominated for a BAFTA, the UK version of our Oscars. I was expecting quite a rollicking show and it was, but I was not prepared for the sight of a naked Princess getting her cooter reamed out in a very steamy sex scene.

There was another bit later where she attends a party and gets high after downing a brownie laced with some sort of drug...sort of disturbing watching a Royal person rolling around on a rug hallucinating.

In sum it was a kind of sad life...at one point in the film she says "But the people love me!" and someone says to her "Not anymore they don't." The look on her face was stunning.

Quite a good film...if only I could get the sight of mammoth Royal knockers out of my head. :P

Work N Stuff

00:57 Aug 22 2010
Times Read: 902

People sometimes....GRR. Had two little fun things at work today that I just know I will dream about later on tonight.

First of all, in comes a mom with a big ol wadded up bedspread. I take her information then ask, in case she hadn't seen the big sign at the desk that prompts you to tell us if you have blood, feces, urine or vomit on your item...if the comforter has any of those things. She says no. But keeping it wadded up....makes my nerves twitch. When someone keeps their stuff wadded up, inside out or in a bag, there is SOMETHING on it somewhere.

Sho nuff. I turn the comforter out on the counter and there in the middle is a big blood splotch, and still damp. The sort of thing that almost makes you want to call the police in case some crime has been committed on it. I look at the mom and asked "You didn't know that was there, but you had it all folded up?" She looked embarrassed. I said "The reason we ask you to tell us is so we don't have to touch that place. We put gloves on to handle items like that. Would YOU like to touch a wet blood spot, or urine, or vomit?"

She couldn't get out of there fast enough. I tagged the comforter and put it in the back where the soiled items go. Just in time for my next adventure.

In comes one of the college employees with an armful of drapes. He plops them on the counter and backs away. Right away, before I even get close to them, I ask him what's on the drapes that he didn't want to stand next to them. He says nothing. Right away I can see that they still have all the hooks at the top...hmm, either some lazy ass forgot to take them off....OR....there was something on the drapes and they took them down quick like a bunny, with whatever the hell it is still inside the drapes.

I told him the hooks have to come off and I reached for a corner to start taking them off. Other customers had come in by this time and I told the guy "unless you want to stand here and block traffic, grab a panel and start taking the hooks out." He whined that no one had told him the hooks had to be taken off....and just then I turned one panel of drapes over...and all hell broke loose.

Wadded up in the fabric was what looked like a partially-eaten sandwich (I only got a quick glance as you will soon see why)...and the inside of the whole panel was CRAWLING WITH BUGS. When I lifted the panel up the bugs came out, flying, crawling, SWARMING ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE.

I grabbed the panel of curtains and ran out the front door which must have amazed the people coming in. I shook out the drapes without vomiting, trying to brush all the mites off myself at the same time. I left the drape panel outside draped over a bush and came back in and read the guy the riot act.

He claimed he didn't know anything about it, he was just the delivery person. I asked who authorized this drape cleaning and got the phone number of his supervisor. Then I read HIM the riot act. Disgusting. People have no idea what happens when food and heat get combined...MAGGOTS. The drape panel was eaten through.

I must have got all my ya-ya's out, cos the guy in the store went away like his ass was on fire and two customers applauded. Yech. I needed a shower BAD. Soon as we closed I asked my boss' parents if I could run upstairs and use their shower, and they said sure. I scrubbed off for about an hour in there, and used every kind of soap they had, including a little Comet cleanser.

Phoned my boss and told him what happened. He is going to speak to the college President on Monday.

Time for another shower.

The final season of The Tudors isn't going to be released till Oct. 31 *cries piteously* dangit, I so hoped they would go on and cover the other Tudors, Henry VIII's children, but it will be ended with this last series.

I re-watched it while I was on vacation last week. Sumptuous is what I would call it, it looks fantastic and actually does follow the real events pretty closely. Interesting to see the producer's ideas on casting...the lovely Joss Stone as the unlovely Anne of Cleves (" I like her not!" Henry was supposed to have shouted at his advisors after seeing her in the flesh at last....he referred to her as his "Flanders Mare".)

Got the final season pre-ordered from Amazon. I'll be happy and sad when it arrives. Happy as I will finally see the series again...and sad because there won't be any more. Poop.

Back to Work

Laid down Saturday for a nap, woke up 3 hours later with a snort...when I saw the clock I jerked up and felt something snap in my neck. Soon as I sat up pain went shooting down my neck to my left arm and down my back. Hoo boy. This can't be good.

I couldn't turn my head to the left at all and couldn't find a comfortable position to sit in. Tried the heating pad and that didn't work. Long soak in the tub didn't help much. I was getting migraines from the pain shooting up into my head. Ack!

Finally called Ask a Nurse and the kind lady said it sounded like I pulled a muscle, well duh, I thought so too. She recommended alternating heat with cold, so out came my cold pack. I was beginning to wonder how the hell I was going to sleep as when I laid down I could feel spasms going down my neck and shoulder into my arm. Scary. I was just about to give up and drive myself to the emergency room when I thought I'd try laying down one more time.

When I went to turn over, I felt/heard a soft "pop" and the pain went away like THAT. I could move my head again! Geez what a relief. Whatever popped out, I popped it back in again.

Phew. Felt better just in time to wake up and go back to work. Thank pete it wasn't as hot as it was last week. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on my ass while my bosses sweated it out. Must have been hideous in there. Heh heh.

I have the set of Lord of the Rings movies on DVD. I saw each film when it came out, and waited to buy the complete set on dvd with all the cool extras..Director's cut I think it's called.

I was discussing this with someone the other day and they said if I were to set down and watch each dvd end to end with all the extras, it would take about 73 hours! Good gosh, that's a long time.

Probably be best to tackle this in segments, I think.

Good Food

Trying to get healthier and eating healthier,

with the help of the "Eat This, Not That" books...which are a total eye-opener and highly recommended by the way.

I knew if I threw everything out that was bad for me, and subsituted only the good stuff, I would never be able to stick to that, so I am "gently" changing things around little by little and that way, I will be more likely to keep eating what is better for me.

Bought some Smuckers Natural creamy peanut butter. Two ingredients...this is the care label...."peanuts, and less than 1% of salt." Can't get much more natural than that. I put some on a whole wheat english muffin, and it's out of this world.

This morning I re-created a recipe from one of the books. Toast a whole wheat english muffin. While that's going on, cook an egg in a pan till the whites are done but the yolk is still runny. Take a couple slices of turkey or ham, put on a plate with a slice of low fat cheddar cheese, and microwave it till the cheese melts. Slice up a tomato. Put the muffin on a plate, then put the meat and cheese, and top with the egg and sliced tomato. Eat.

This was fantastic! Not that I'd eat it every day, but it makes a great change from cereal and protein bars. There is a great recipe for huevos rancheros in there too, I want to try that next.

Taking the book with me tomorrow when I shop for groceries.

I think these people, who make really good money at these places, don't "get" that there is NO job security now anywhere, and if you have a good job, you do what it takes to hang on to it. Now all the workers are whining about how bad the company was to demand they take a pay cut in the first place. What the hell is WRONG with people.

Job Security?

23:12 Aug 12 2010
Times Read: 1,061

Just heard this on the local news. A company just up the road from here had asked their employees to take a 20% wage cut or possibly close the plant and all the jobs would go to another plant in Kentucky. This plant makes high end appliances such as stoves and fridges. The union had a vote....and....they decided to turn down the option to take the wage cut.

Ok, we went through this awhile back when the GM plant closed. We still get these people on the news complaining that they can't live on the $12 buck an hour jobs they are finding. I want to slap these people. When the plant closed, they had these options...1. move to Ohio to another GM plant and continue their jobs there. 2. GM would pay for schooling for a new trade. Meanwhile, for 2 years they get 80% of their salary AND benefits. HUH.

Now the Wolf people. Honestly, would 20% be that hard to work into your budget? Yes, I understand times are hard. You guys are making good money over there though. Tighten the belt a little bit? Make some more sacrifices? I know you guys have big trucks, boats, vacation places etc...maybe you could scale those back. Shop at Target instead of Saks. Ok, you might lose your house, but get a smaller one, or an apartment or condo. You would still have a JOB.

Voting it down, you might end up with nothing. Employers across the board are tightening up to save their companies, and passing those cuts down to their staff. In tough times, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I wonder if bad negotiation skills come into play here. Maybe they think they're calling the company's bluff and turning down the wage cut, thinking that they'll be able to settle for more and being horribly mistaken.

04:04 Aug 13 2010

We're getting a lot of that here as well. The bus drivers here - San Francisco and Alameda County - earn some of the highest wages in the country. So do many of the county employees. They are all pissed off because their companies/county want them to start paying for part of their health care coverage (They don't pay a cent).

It's like the current economic crisis should not apply to them, you know? I'd be happy to get a job just a few dollars over the minimum wage...

"Wish I could find a job."

These were about 6 minutes apart. I want to reach through the screen and slap this woman. She has been offered jobs, told where to go to get one, but apparently laying by the pool and texting all day is the preferable alternative. I have no time or patience for people like this.

Fun, Fun

Wow. Being home during the day I get to see and hear what I miss while I'm gone. Just had an incident with the couple upstairs. About an hour ago she comes into the front room and starts blasting music. I was just about to go up there and ask them to turn the noise down when he starts crashing around, throwing things, shouting so loud I can hear it "FUCKING BITCH! WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING BITCH! FUCK! I'M GONNA KILL YOU!"

More crashing. Screaming. Things thrown agains the floor and the wall so hard my apartment shakes. I go out to get the manager who is coming down the hall....some other tenant complained of the noise already and they thought it was coming from MY apartment! (insert laughter here)

He goes upstairs to see what the hell happened...just in time to see the man slam out of the apartment and run like hell down the hall the other way. I knew I'd never catch him so the manager hands me his cell phone and says "hold this and call 911 if necessary." He pounds on the door and the girl opens it...looks like she and the apartment were in a war zone. Chunks of her hair out, fresh scratches and bruises...and OMG the apartment.

Broken furniture, something purple/black spilled all over the carpet in the entryway, chunks out of the walls, and the door frame cracked. Geezus. I call 911 and the police must have been right in the area as they were here within minutes.

Now they are out looking for the dude, I had to make a statement, and the girl was taken away to be checked over. They are going to be evicted and the apartment all fixed up... and I said hey, I want to move in there when you are done, so I can get out from under crap like this. People move up onto the 3rd floor for the peace and quiet, so they won't hear people crashing around over them at all hours. Granted, you can still hear things from the apartments side to side, but not much. So hopefully in a few months' time, before the end of the year, I can have a nice fresh apartment in a quieter zone.

The local news is showing people at the State Fair, sampling food from various vendors. Honestly, some of that stuff beggars the imagination. We've all seen/heard of the various foods on a stick...cheese things, pork things, things dipped in a coating and deep fried...but here is a new one.

Krispy Kreme cheeseburgers.

Yes folks, some enterprising person got the idea of splitting a Krispy Kreme doughnut and putting a cheeseburger (with the works) in between the two layers.

The look on the face of the guy who just ate one on live TV was a picture. He was trying to swallow it down but it obviously wasn't to his taste, and the grimace was something like I made as a child when faced with a portion of spinach. Cripes! That was funny.

I think I'd stick to the tried and true junk food at the fair, like the creme puffs, cotton candy, and cheese curds...save the more exotic combinations for the braver souls.

Just came back from running an errand, and as I sat waiting for the light to turn green I saw the time and temperature on the clock at the bank...96 degrees. Lawsy. What it must be like inside the cleaners this week, I don't wanna know!

There was a little convertible next to me, revving his engine (small penis, mister?) and inching forward as we waited for the light to turn green. I know just what he was thinking..."soon as the light turns green I am gonna STOMP on my gas pedal and my new car is gonna leave her little wagon in the dust, and I'm going to cut her off for good measure."

Yeah.

Soon as the light turned green I went to step on my gas pedal and I heard this huge BANG come from my right, it sounded like a bomb going off. I looked quick and there was the convertible, with all this black smoke coming from under his hood. The guy was sitting there with his mouth open as I sailed on by. I have no idea what happened..I didn't stay around to find out.

Vacation

01:08 Aug 06 2010
Times Read: 1,182

Honestly, getting this vacation has been one royal pain in the ass. Back in January, I put it on the calendar after my bosses kept nagging me about it. "Just pick a week in August," they said, so I did.

From January to now, each of them has had 28 days off. These are work days Monday thru Saturday. Lotsa time off for the lads, right? You'd think I'd be next in line for some time off. Other than federal holidays and Sundays, when we are closed, I have had no time off.

I flipped the calendar over to August the other day and found one boss had drawn a line thru my vacation week and wrote instead "FISHING TOURNAMENT."

Uh, what?

Each of these guys have had LOTS of fishing time lately. One went to Greece in March. One went to Cancun. and to Canada. And to various other places while I ran the shop. So when I saw that calendar note, I went off. In about 2 minutes both bosses knew I was pissed and they started jockeying for position.

How about if I just took a couple days off, like Monday and Tuesday, work the rest of the week, then take another couple of days sometime later? NO, that never works..I tried that one year and the "sometime later" never arrived. Turns out the boss who wanted my week off is planning on leaving mid week, so two people at least would be needed to fill in.

I got on the phone and called our other store. In about 5 minutes I had the people who work there scheduled to cover my week off. I also called my boss' WIFE and asked her to fill in. She said she would, and she was astonished that they would sabotage my vacation.

Victory was mine when I scribbled out "FISHING TOURNAMENT" and wrote back in "Patty's Vacation."

Honestly, some people. Feh.

Sometimes, from a negative can come something positive. Just in the last couple of days here I've made some new friends, gotten to know some other ones better, and raised my level a bit as well.

So, all is well in the end!

So now I'm blocked. Worried I might message someone? Don't worry, I don't do that stuff. I must be badass to get a block. Heh.

It's funny how that works though. . . . See, I can pay someone whose job it is to check the oil in my car--so it seems not everyone can do it on their own. Yet, how many times have you or I been paid for grammar skills? It seems like there's a reason for that. . . .

P.S. I've missed your journal!

For some reason ... I got a five. And a real comment, not a stamp.

I must be special, or as DrCullen puts it ... I am epic.

Dawgman.....you need to check your ratings stamp. It says "I rated you a 10".

You just rated me a 1.

You have a nice day. I'm not even going to bother going to your profile, so enjoy your little self.

Lately, I haven't been spending as much time online. Logging on only to write a journal entry when the inspiration strikes....

Anyway, I logged on today to a one rating from a fool.

The very same fool that has rated you.

I wanted to block him considering his stamp stretched my profile page, but I figured he'd only think I blocked him because of the rating and all of that jazz, but seriously...having my profile all violated by a huge stamp is quite annoying.

I rated both of his accounts a one.

I don't so much care about the rate, but I feel like if he's going to rate me a one, then why not return the favor?

I think that might say too much about the kind of person I am. I tend to be a bit vindictive and instead of assessing every aspect of a situation I act on impulse, or rather my actions are dictated by my unwillingness to let someone get away with something that I consider to just be wrong or stupid.

Sorry for rambling in your journal haha. I tend to do this.

Well, he does at least give an honest disclosure on his page: "Full of rage and might that nothing or no one can ease." Typical 'lycan.' So I guess you got to be a recipient of his little e-rage. Pfft...

Belt Needed

00:12 Aug 01 2010
Times Read: 914

Guy walks into the shop today and asks if we can punch a hole in his belt, he has lost weight and wants to make it tighter. I said yes, we can do that, let's have the belt.

I expected him to have it handy, but not this handy....we was wearing it. When he slipped it off...his pants fell down. I tried not to laugh as he hurriedly scrabbled to pull his jeans up over his tatty purple and white checked shorts. He turned all red and said "I lost a bunch of weight and now none of my pants fit."

I said "Congratulations on losing the weight, but maybe you might want to get a couple new pair of pants."

He said "Going there now."

I punched the hole in the belt and handed it back to him. For giving me my giggle of the day I didn't charge him for flashing me or for mooning the two other people behind him who yipped like rabid terriers when the pants fell down.

Sheesh.
